Be Careful What you Spell for

Chop Wood, Carry water

Success is usually 10% inspiration 90% perspiration

As a magician one is always trying to get intention to influence reality.  That sounds fine as a concept but the reality is sometimes overwhelming.  I recently had the experience of seeing more than a years worth of spells finally break through on a business and one little concept totally changed the direction and the cash.  It was a simple change in perception that let to a shit load of work.

So my apologies on not creating much content recently but my focus has been consumed by my brick and motar business.

I think sometimes it is easy to get caught up in the ceremony and the meditation and it is easy to forget to roll up your sleeves and do the work.  There is a zen saying, “What do you do before enlightenment?  Chop wood carry water, what do you do after enlightenment? Chop wood carry water.

That is often the case in our society as well.  I have chopped much wood and carried much water over the last 30 days but have much steam to show for it.  The combination of magickal insight and physical work has yielded great reward.

There is an art to living life well and magic is definitely part of that.  It has brought a depth and a breadth to my life that I am extremely grateful for.  I recently had the chance to have dinner with an acquaintance who hasn’t perused any form of healing or enlightenment and they are confused by the struggles in their life and have no clue how to resolve them.

Magick gives me a context to see how challenges create character and experiences bring insight.  I can see a vision in meditation and have the courage to act on that vision in physical reality and reap the reward.  I have the courage to act on my intuitive nudges and know that my spirit rarely leads me astray.  This is a powerful way to live.

Being an entrepreneur in America truly is a magical experience and I am extremely grateful for it.

What ever you spell for be it love or money I hope you get all you need and no drama to go with it.  I think 2012 will be a turning point for many magical people and hope it is a prosperous one for the world as fears melt away balance will be restored and times will be pleasant again.

How Hydrokinesis works

Posted by dragonlady on January 6, 2012

Water drop

Hydrokenisis definition : the manipulation of water

Hydrokinesis is the manipulation of water.  Or the moving or influencing of water with the mind.

Hydrokinesis is a very interesting topic. There are a lot of people in the world trying to develop their psychic abilities. Many people find they have different affiliations with different elements. There’s actually a lot of history to support the study of Hydrokinesis.

The ability to control and manipulate water is the very first skill required to develop civilization. It is in fact an organizing element that cities and civilizations are built upon.

Ancient Roman aqueducts still stand today and still have water flowing through them. The ability to control the flow of water and therefore chi controlled room’s ability to create a stable civilization that lasted over 1000 years.

The Chinese say that a healthy body remains that way if there is good flow. The lead energy flows much the same way as water flows.

So in my opinion it’s not that outlandish to believe that you can affect the flow of water with your chi, or your internal power or your intention.

Especially when you consider that we live on a blue planet. There is more water than anything else on the surface of the earth, and there is more water in us than any other element usually.

One thing to take into consideration when studying hydro-kinesis, is that water translates energy very efficiently but very slowly. There’s very little energy loss in a way that starts in Africa and moves to the ocean to the shores of Mexico, but quite often it takes a long time to get there.

So when you begin to work with Hydro kinesis patience will be a major key factor for you.

Also the ability to meditate very deeply and maintain very relaxed mental state will really help you, because when we relax our brain waves lengthen and strengthen and it’s this level of meditation that you will need to access if you want to affect water within your close proximity.

There many ways that people access or practice hydrokenisis one common way you can see many videos on YouTube that people choose to start learning how to affect water is to place a bowl of water on the table in front of them and then float a wooden toothpick on the surface of the water and go into a meditative state focus on trying to make the toothpick circulate in a clockwise or counterclockwise direction.

That’s one aspect of hydrogenase is and certainly a great way to him learn how to put yourself into deep meditative state and focus on a specific intent. The Chinese have a very interesting way of working with water. They use of the call Dragon bowls. This is a brass bowl usually with the image of a dragon on it with handles out to the side. Someone practicing this Sword of chi hung would put themselves in a meditative state, then slowly rub their hands along the brass handles to create a certain frequency, those frequencies than translate to the water and creative resonance that makes a column of water stand up from the bowl. Its very cool to watch.

I think that demonstration holds the key to all kinetic abilities. If you want to influence the world around you, you have to control frequencies that you emit and observe how those frequencies affect people and elements around you.

Of course like many of the magical abilities we talk about this blog it all starts with meditation. So download yourself a guided meditation today and get practicing.

How Feng Shui Works

Posted by dragonlady on January 4, 2012

Feng shui bagua colors and meanings

Colors and meanings of different areas of your environment

Fung Shui is the asian art of placement or the study of how energy flows through an environment.  If you haven’t heard about Fung Shui or played with it in your own life at all.  I highly recommend it.  It is a very powerful system and while you could spend your life studying it; you can implement small changes and see how they work for you.

It is related to Tai Chi and I think of it as a way of making a spell manifest in your environment.  It becomes very powerful when you consciously choose the placement of the things around you to create a certain outcome.  Then every time you move through your home or office environment you are subconsciously reminded of your expectation of success in certain areas.  As you are pleased by a peaceful orderly environment your positive emotions magnetize the success to yourself that you have envisioned.

You can use fung shui to decorate your house or office an individual room or eve your desk.  It is a way of perceiving and processing the world around your and how you expect it to interact with you.

One of the funest feng shui experiments I ever did involved painting a mural of the Eifel tower and a little cafe scene in my kitchen which was my fame corner, then the mural kind of wrapped around into the love corner where I painted little cafe scenes.  I painted a girl sitting at a coffee shop reading my (then unpublished) novel.  I painted a couple kissing in an upstairs window.  (My love life heated up immediately and I started dating several men at once while I was working on the mural, and best of all I was painting the details in a flower shop and someone rang the doorbell to deliver flowers from one of the suitors; the one I wound up with in fact.)  Looking back I should have painted a jewelery store or a real estate office but  you get the idea.

I think the intention was extra intensified because I was actually painting the images and not just rearranging things but actually thinking about how to manifest things from thin air and paint and intention.

Feng shui is based on the bagua or a map or grid of what parts of your home or environment relate to certain parts of your life.  Certain Colors coordinate better than others with certain aspects and it is fun to take the basics of the grid and create a pleasing environment for yourself based on your interpretation of the ancient correspondences.

Always start with the clearing of clutter.  It makes space to receive new things when you are willing to let go of the old.

Always make your home easy to move around and safe to enjoy.  Health is always the first goal of feng shui and wealth is a close second.  Honor yourself and your intentions and make your environment a reflection of your beauty within and you can ‘t go wrong.

Start the new year off right.  Clear the clutter and set your intentions.

The Energetic Properties of Pearls

Posted by dragonlady on December 30, 2011

Brown pearls

Brown pearls, not my cup of tea

I love living the pagan life and being intuitive and really understanding that the world around us is sentient, but you know there is a downside to all this sensitivity.  It makes you perceive the world a little differently than the rest of society.  For instance, my sweet mate got me a lovely bracelet and earrings of brown freshwater pearls for Christmas.  The average woman would put them on and kiss her mate and wear them with the right outfit.  That is really not how it works for me.

I have read from various sources that the energetic properties of pearls represent innocence can enhance personal integrity and helps provide focus to ones attention.  With all due respect to Melody who wrote, love is in the earth, I find that to be utter hogwash.  My experience may be affected by the fact that my fresh water pearls were dyed brown or chemically treated but lets back up and take things in context.  A pearl is formed by creating an irritation in the shell of an oyster.  The oyster forms the pearl around the irritation to soften the bothersome spot by surrounding it with more and more of the lifeblood or ochre.  Bleah!

No precious stone is made in ease but the intentional placing of an irritant  in a living being seemed to really translate to people ‘getting under my skin.’  In fact I wasn’t even wearing them but had handled them this afternoon and found myself in the middle of a very charged atmosphere that escalated very quickly from what I though was a very reasonable business discussion.  I was asking about a new project and suddenly everyone not being addressed by me had cleared the area like they were waiting for a bomb to go off.  I left the building and talked to myself for 30 min in the car trying to calm down and detoxify myself

I don’t think pearls are the thing for me to be wearing.

The may be great for some one who needs a little ambition to get off their duff or for someone who needs to learn to speak up for themselves but I actually returned that set to the jeweler today.  I am going to take a friend with me to pick something else out tomorrow when I have had a little distance from it.

Fortunately I have a sweet and understanding mate who just wants me to be happy and not kill any of our employees so he was cool with it.

I will admit to being an alpha female with a fair amount of drive, I have always been entrepreneurial and un afraid of the consequences of my choices, sometimes to my detriment.  I have noticed that traditionally ‘yin’ stones don’t work well for me.  Moonstone, another very feminine stone makes me crabby and cranky too.  So maybe its too much testosterone in my system but I won’t be wearing pearls to dinner anytime soon.

The gift that stones bring us when we choose to open up to the lessons that are all around us is the reflection they show us of ourselves.

I think our spirits are pure whit light and our bodies break that light into the rainbow reflected in our chakras but we all still crave the light because it reminds of of source.  The source of our selves and it reminds us of the connection we have to all things, so when we see light reflected in a brilliant cut we are drawn to it because we are drawn to the reflection of ourselves.

The pearls did me the service of amplifying a part of my personality I need to work on.  The one that is easily irritated and intolerant of other peoples opinions.  Maybe a little portion of me that needs to be smoothed out. I had to thank them as a teacher and let them go but they may serve some one else well as a nice compliment to their outfit.  Good luck to that lucky lady.  I think I’ll trade them for some Peridot, or maybe a nice Citrine. Something that compliments my skin tone and my energy flow.

Learning to live in Rhythm with Earth Energies

Posted by dragonlady on December 29, 2011

Winter meditation garden

Winter is a time of rest -- Make sure you get some

Part of the joy of living the pagan lifestyle is learning that life is not linear.  As americans we get sucked into the the 24-7 lifestyle and the hard drive to make a career and raise a family and do everything ‘right.’  As a pagan it puts you in touch not so much with the society around you but with your internal landscape and the natural world around you.  That is the lesson I have been trying to hold on to as the Christmas season has passed me by.  Of course my life has room to be non traditional because I don’t have small children in school.   It is just my mate and I and we can pretty much live as we like here in the woods in MS.

As an empath Christmas has always been my least favorite time of the year because the ambient stress in the population skyrockets.  I always hibernate as much as I can in December anyway.  I am always done shopping by November and the first year we were together I threatened my beloved mate with bodily injury if he ever made me go out on Christmas eve again.  He shops by himself that day because he likes all that frantic energy.  To each their own

If you look at the rhythm of the earth energies though winter is a time of rest.  In fact I have taken a lesson from my house plants this year.  I usually leave them out all spring and summer and drag them in for winter.  I don’t usually fertilize much in the winter but as an experiment I have been putting a little miracle grow in their water each time I water them I feed them a bit and they are really triving.

So I have taken the lesson for my own life and I instead of making myself take on a huge new self improvement project I have been doing little things to fertilize my spirit and not demanding so much of myself.  I take small meditation breaks, I have been getting a bit of cardio on the cross country machine, and I have been reading authors who inspire me.   People who have been successful at what I want to do.

I have also been working with some magical constructs that store up energy that can be released on demand.  Little bits gathered here and there, no major workings just moon phase magic and a little solstice love save up.

When spring comes I’ll celebrate Beltane joyfully and I’ll get out in my Kayak and enjoy nature from the water line up but until them I am in sync with earth energies in that I am resting and restoring myself until the warmth of spring activates all my drives again.

I hope you are doing the same and enjoying the time you have with friends and family and not being too exhausted by the process.

Dragon Lords of Earth, Air, Fire and Water

Posted by dragonlady on December 15, 2011

Four Dragons

There are many stories in many different cultures of dragons

I just want to say that I was the girl with the dragon tattoo long before I ever head of the movie.  I got my tattoo of Quan Yin riding the dragon after a near death experience and a personal interaction with her.  In my NDE I broke both legs, which gave me a lot of time to meditate.  Quan Yin and her dragon were very attentive in those days and I feel like really helped me make a 100 percent recovery.

To this day I still call dragons to help me with my ceremonial magick.  So I thought you might like an introduction to them.  The names and directions are compliments of DJ conway and if you like this info I suggest you get her books on Dragon Magick. They are wonderful resources.  While the names are hers the descriptions are mine and these are the constructs I have built up over the years.

Keep in mind if you decide to work with Dragon magic they are very ancient and very powerful. You must always treat them with the utmost respect. Think visiting royalty. They don’t suffer fools well.

The Dragon Lords of the four directions are;

Sairys is Dragon Lord of the air.

He is in Eastern Dragon he’s absolutely beautiful, his scales are very reflective and many times you can see clouds or what looks like fiery sunsets or sunrises in his reflected in his scales.  Sairys is the Dragon to go to for creative ideas, help with finals and intellectual pursuits.  Water and air are my favorite dragon lords, maybe because I am an Aquarius.  Water and fire can also be a powerful combination for manifestation.

Fafnir is ruler of the dragons in the South and a fire.

Fafnir looks more like a Western Dragon. of course he breathes fire; not all dragons do. He’s a little more heavy in the body and a little less reflective than Sairys. Fafnir can be anywhere from golden to orange. He almost looks like burnished brass and is very beautiful. Fafnir would be a wonderful Dragon Ally if your self-confidence needs little boost. He reminds me of all the descriptions of Leos in the zodiac.  You can ask him to help you be more self confident in romanic pursuits and I bet he would step right up.

Nayleon Is ruler of the Dragons of the West and water.

Nayleon is the lord of the west and of water.  As a water Dragon he is also very reflective and sometimes almost looks translucent. his body is shaped somewhat like Chinese Dragon he has a beautiful pearlescent rough around his face.  All the dragons are powerful, Nayleon though to me seems very nurturing and loving which is one reason I named my blog after this dragon lord. Nayleon also has a feminine quality to her.  I don’t know how these things work with dragons but she could well be a female. Water is also the element of that represents money in feng shui. So she is a good Dragon to get to know if you wanted to prosperity or money spells.  Water fire and earth can all be powerful prosperity combinations depending on how you make your money.

Grail is the ruler of the dragons of the North and Earth

Grail also looks like a Western Dragon to me he is the heaviest body and the shortest legs and he just seems very very grounded. To me he kind of has like Labrador retriever energy. He is most content and self satisfied no matter where he is on the earth. Grail loves magic he’s very good manifestation magic and moving of obstacles.  He is a good dragon ally if you are trying to develop a trade or get ahead in your career.

Earth water is also a strong combination if you are setting a garden or growing long term investments Grail and Nayleon are a powerful nurturing combo.

There are many more dragon lords but these are the quarters I call and I encourage you to have a little meditation time and introduce your self.  They also like long journeys and will fly along with your car witch can be very interesting.

The Haunted Mirror of Earthly Delights Day Spa

Posted by dragonlady on December 8, 2011

Antebellum Mantle Piece

One of my very haunted antiques complete with green man carvings

When I decorated my spa I wanted it to be a reflection of the place it was located.  Mississippi is beautiful and the one thing we have an abundance of, and true appreciation for, is antiques and haunted sites.  So the theme at my spa was very antebellum.  But I was lucky because my sweetie let me borrow a few family heirlooms from the family home that was built in 1840.

Of those pieces was a gorgeous Double stacked Mantle mirror and trumeau mirror and that we set at the end of a long the hall.  It was just a little concave so it had the lovely side effect of making you look slimmer as you walked toward it.  Which always gave it a lot of praise and attention.  It was a most interesting mirror too, at times it would look cloudy like someone had smeared something on it and other times it cleared up.  (I didn’t let anyone touch it to clean it but me and I didn’t mess with it much, because it was borrowed and build in 1800′s.  I didn’t want to be the one who destroyed the mirror or the value of it by taking the ‘patina’ off of it.

Earthly delights is no longer in business but while it was we always had energy workers there.  It was always more than a beauty salon.  While the building was new and not a known haunted place, I know we had ghosts there and I think they came and went from that mirror.

It was not unusual for I and several staff members to be in the front of the building and think we heard rustling or laughter in the hall and go to shush them and no one was there.  There was one treatment room door that would open of its own accord during massages when folks got emotional on the table.

The coolest apparition was when I came around the corner and saw a man in 1800′s party clothes (long coat and shiny shoes with large buckles.) with his hands clasped behind his back and seemed to be studying the potions and wax pot on the aestheticians cart.

I like to think there was a wonderful antebellum party going on on the other side of that mirror and they occasionally stepped through to see what we were up to.  It is so much more romantic than calling it the mirror ghost.

I didn’t realize it when we started but there are many stories of haunted mirrors and tales of entities coming and going from them.  Fung Shui says you shouldn’t have a mirror in the bedroom when you sleep because your spirit may get lost in it when it comes out of your body to dream.

No entity at the spa was ever acrimonious they just seemed curious and interested in what was going on.  The spa is shut down now but we still have the mirror in the family, one of the other brothers has it and occasionally sees a party goer as well.

Making Magick according to the moon phase

Posted by dragonlady on December 7, 2011

Moon in Phases

Black and white, light and dark, in between the balance starts

Wiccans and ceremonial magicians have traditionally used the moon phase and the energy created by the rhythm of the moon to enhance their magical workings.

Even Muggles know that a full moon creates tons of energy that sometimes results in ‘Lunacy.’ It is well known that emergency rooms are busier on full moon nights, more babies are born on full moon nights, more cars crashed and more people feel like they can take bigger risks.

We know the pull of the gravitation of the moon affects the tides of the ocean. It also affects the tides of our bodies which are 98% water. Magicians long ago figured out that it’s easier to go with the flow than against it. So new Moons are great time to do creation spells. It’s a good time to set an intention and watch the energy of the moon build as the intention builds and see the spell come to fruition almost fluidly. New moons are great time to meditate and clear your ego. Full moons are great time to go to battle and get what you want.

During the waning and the new moon phases the elemental spirits most affected are air and fire. The pull of the moons forces are weaker during these times allowing air and fire to have a stronger influence so if you’re doing magic that involves mental things; like taking tests or designing a new landscape or house, this is a good time to work on those sorts of magical workings.

During the full moon elements of water and earth feel the pull the power of the women the most there stronger during the waxing of the full Moon cycles than in any other moon phase so these are great times to work on emotional spells or financial spells are usually represents gain and being paid well for your work.

Knowing how the moon phase is going to affect your energy can help you create and store magical focuses as well. You can charge a lucky stone that you can keep in your pocket during the New moon’s phase that’s charged with all that financial good luck that you may need during the low times. Kind of like creating a magical bank account.

This may be biased but being a woman I think women are more affected by the phases of the moon and that our energy is more in flux than men, so in my magical workings during the next year I plan to really pay attention to the moon phase and storing and releasing energy within the rhythm of the moon.

When considering what spell to do with the phase of the moon look to the heavens and ask yourself what’s going on. In magic we say, ‘as above so below,’ that really applies to the moon magic. If the moon is getting larger, it’s reflecting more of the sun’s energy and things are becoming more active. If the moon is getting smaller, there’s more of the earth between the sun and the moon and it’s reflecting less energy. So focus on things you want to increase as the moon is getting larger, and focus on things you want to decrease as it moves away from full.

Simple right? As with most things magical simple in practice and yet you could spend a lifetime learning to do it well.

Good luck with your magic and don’t forget to check out our article on moon phases to see where we are in the cycle for 2012.
